S.E Hinton Biography
S.E Hinton is an American female author who was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1950. She is well known from writing the book "The Outsiders", which was written when she was the age of seventeen. She also attended Will Rogers high school. The two groups in high school, were based off of the two gangs in the book called Socs and Greasers. After high school she earned a degree at the University of Tulsa. She began writing the outsiders by what she had witnessed the groups do in her school.
The story was originally going to be about a young boy who got beat up after returning from a movie theater, but as time had passed she began expanding on the story. As the story expanded, she created what we now know as "The Outsiders". This novel was based off of the events that has happened throughout the years of her childhood.
Her book was later published in 1988 along with several other books, including her own biography years later. Some of the books that were published had already been made into movies. The outsiders had sold nearly 10 million copies and still continually sells today. She has also been rewarded an author achievement reward, given to her by the American Library Association in the same year the book was published. She now lives her life as a teacher and author in New York City.
