Once every year the Capitol takes one girl and boy from each district to fight to the death in an arena for their amusement they called this the Hunger Games. Each boy or girl from the ages of 12 through 18 are sacrificed in these games. Before Katniss was brought to the Capitol all the districts hold a reaping to choose which people will be in the arena. Katniss's sister Prim was chosen for the games, but Katniss volunteered to take her place. Before she was taken to the Capitol her friend Marge, the Mayor's daughter gave her a mocking jay pin, which holds great value to her. Katniss and Peeta won the Games, because they pretended to be star crossed lovers in their district.
Protagonist
Katniss and Peeta are the main protagonists in the book, The Hunger Games. They are the protagonists in the book, because they both are important to the story, and they won the 74th annual Hunger Games. Katniss Everdeen is one of the main heroes in the book, because when Prim, her sister was chosen for the Hunger Games, she volunteered to take he place."Prim is screaming hysterically behind me. She's wrapped her skinny arms around me like a vice. "No, Katniss! No! You can't go!" Peeta is also a protagonist in the story, because he and Katniss team up to win the Hunger games
Antagonist
The antagonists in the book are the people in the Capitol, and President Snow. The reason the people in the Capitol are the antagonists is, because they do not notice that The Hunger Games is an event where they bring innocent children in an arena to fight to the death for the citizens amusement. President Snow thinks that if Katniss won the games the people of district 12 will have hope and start a revolution. "Yes, they have to have a victor."
Theme
A theme is an idea or message in the story. The theme in the book, The Hunger Games is to fight for what you believe in, because Katniss Everdeen is fighting for the freedom of everyone in district twelve, for winning The Hunger Games. Since Katniss won The Games, everyone in district 12 was provided with food. Katniss showed everyone in the Capitol and the districts that she is not just a piece of the Hunger Games, and that innocent people were sacrificed during the games.
Conflict
The conflict in the story is man vs society, because Katniss Everdeen is fighting against people in The Capitol. The reason she is fighting against The Capitol is, because The Capitol created The Hunger Games, because it was a way to tell them not to rise up against them.
Authors perspective
Suzanne Collins, the author of the book, The Hunger Games got her insiration to write the book by channel surfing. Katniss backstory in the book is based on Suzanne Collin's life because her father passed away in the Vietnam was, and Katniss' father died in an explosion in district 12. Another reason she created the book is, because during the making of the book she explained most of her live into Katniss' character.
Motif
The motif in the book the Hunger Games is the Mocking jay pin that Katniss' friend Madge gave to her, because it was very important to her. The reason the mocking jay pin was important to Madge is because it was in her family for many years. To Katniss the pin symbolizes hope, and strength, because she needed to win The Hunger Games because she has to protect her little sister Prim. The antagonist in the story, which is the Capitol despises the mocking jay pin, because they think the other districts will rise against them.
Book review
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is an action adventure book and the message in the story is to never give up. I think that I would give this book a ten out of ten, because the story is well written and the book doesn't drag on with over explaining things, and is also as an exciting ending. The suggested age group who should read this book would be ages 11 and above, because the book would to too violent to those who are younger.
